Brief Introduction to the Compiling Origin of Comprehensive Table of Content of Complete Library in Four Branches of Literature and Its Classification Style

对《四库全书总目》的纂修缘起及分类体例作一探索:四部之首各冠以总序,撮述其源流正变;各类卷首撰以小序,论其分类改隶;凡提要义有未尽,于子目之末附注案语。《四库全书总目》通过分门别类、提要编目的方式,建构了一个包罗宏富、组织严密的科学体系。

This article explores the compiling origin of Comprehensive Table of Content of Complete Library in Four Branches of Literature and its classification style. A summary is written before each of the four branches of literature in order to cover its right origin;a short foreword is written before each volume to show its classification. If the meaning of each summary is not fully expounded, an annotation will be written in the bottom of each subtitle. By means of classification and the approach of summary and catalog, an all-embracing and rigorously organized scien tific system is constructed.
