推行政府信息公开，是提高科学执政、民主执政、依法执政能力，构建社会主义和谐社会的必然要求，是推进社会主义民主，建设法治政府的重要举措，是建立行为规范、运转协调、公正透明、廉洁高效的行政管理体制的重要内容。中共中央办公厅和国务院办公厅多次下发文件，部署、推动全国各级行政机关的政务公开工作。
Promotion of disclosure of government information is an inevitable requirement for building the capacity of scientific governance, democratic governance and lawful governance; a major approach to promote socialist democracy and establish a government with the rule of law; and also a major part of the work to establish a new system of administrative management with well-regulated behavior and coordinated operation.
