魏源一生著述甚丰,也编辑刊印了多部经世致用的图书。魏源编辑图书以其经世致用思想为指导;在选择文章资料时以经世致用为原则,不注重文章作者身份高低,而只求文章质量;在编辑加工时讲究纲张目举,方便阅览查询;对书中所引史料敢于删减增补,查漏补缺;在编辑体例、史料引用等方面不囿于陈规定论,敢于与时俱进,不断创新。其编辑思想具有明显的经世致用的特点。

Wei Yuan, the great scolar in the later Qing Dynasty （1644--1911）, wrote a lot of works and also editted many books in which contained the content of administering state affairs. The books that Wei Yuan compiled are full of his view ideas of taking the managing state affairs as the guiding thinking. The material for the the books contained the priciples of administering the country affairs, the compositions he selected were of high quality. It didn＇t matter whether their ranks and social statues of the writer was high or low. In case the composition quality is high, it could be collected in his process of editing. He made full choice of fine compositions and discarded the bed ones. The patterns of his edition did not follow what the old patterns and he made his innovations. His editing thought was obvious to put the ideas of adminitering state affairs.
