Cat in the Rain is one of Hemingway＇s brilliant stories. The story aroused many different interpretations as to its theme since its publication. The paper applies archetypal critical approach to the analysis of the story in order to reexamine its theme. The paper provides another possible interpretation of the story＇s theme： the theme of death and Hemingway＇s criticism on war.
