翻译目的对翻译策略的影响——以《红楼梦》的两个译本为例

On the Influence of Translation Purpose on Translation Strategy——Taking two translated versions of Hong Lou Meng as an example

杨宪益夫妇和霍克斯分别翻译的《红楼梦》可谓二十世纪中国翻译史上的两部标志性作品。文章从翻译目的论的角度分析了翻译目的对《红楼梦》译者的翻译过程所产生的影响。主要从文化、意识形态、译本的编排三方面进行了阐述。

A Dream of Red Mansion by Yang Xianyi and The Story of the Stone by David Hawkes are two most well known English versions of Chinese classic novel 红楼梦（Hong Lou Meng）by Gao E＇and are hailed, as landmark works in the translation history of China. This thesis analyzes the influence of translation purpose（skopos）upon the two translators in their respective translation processes. The analysis is mainly carried out from the perspectives of culture, ideology and the layout of the translated versions.
