“舟”作形旁两解

An analysis of implications of Chinese radical Zhou(舟)

"舟"作形旁,意义一般解作"船只",《说文解字》舟下所属共11个字都作此解,但其中关于"朕"、"般"、"服"三字形义关系的分析值得商榷。文章借助考古资料,联系古人祭祀祖先的祼礼仪式,推论"舟"作形旁还有一解,即舟形器物。以此,对"朕"、"般"、"服"等字的本义重新作了尝试性探讨。

Zhou is a Chinese radical, meaning ship, In Shuowenjiezi by Xushen, the 11 Chinese characters using Zhou（舟） for radical are of the similar meaning. But the relations between form and meaning of the three characters ＂zhen＂ （联） ,＂ ban＂ （般） and ＂fu＂ （服） are just debatable. Taking into consideration of archaeological information and ceremonies where people were naked, the authors of this paper infer that Zhou（舟） possesses another meaning ,that is the boat-shaped containers. Based on this, the authors discuss the （联）, ＂ban＂ （般） and ＂fu＂ （服） from a new perspective.
