摘要
本文从存在主义视角分析了《荆棘鸟》女主人公梅吉一生四个重要阶段的遭遇和抗争,证明这部小说创造了完全不同于古典悲剧的现代悲剧:构成古典悲剧冲突的双方各自具有伦理力量的合理性,而梅吉的冲突对象则是无穷无尽的荒诞,而且正是这种荒诞最终毁灭了她的幸福。该小说的审美意义在于塑造了梅吉这一现代悲剧人物形象,她那无望而不懈的抗争给人以另一种震撼。
Based on the existentialist analysis of suffering and struggle by Meggie, the heroine in the Thorn Bird, in her four important stages of development, the paper suggests that the Thorn Bird has created a modern tragedy entirely different from classic tragedy : while either of the two parties in a clash in the latter presents its own rational ethical power, the party Meggie confronts is a series of absurdities, which ultimately destroy her happiness. The aesthetic significance of the novel is its construction of Meggie, whose desperate and ceaseless struggle against absurdities brings shake to readers.
