The Socio-Cultural Contexts and Fiction Translation before and after the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895

中国的小说翻译出现于鸦片战争之后。在早期的小说外译汉史上，甲午战争是一个转折点。本文分析了甲午战争前后相关的社会文化语境，指出战争前后中国社会、文化的不同形态对小说翻译活动产生了直接的影响，使之从叙述形式到所述内容都表现出不同的特征。

Fiction translation in China emerged after the Opium War in 1840. In the history of fiction translation from foreign languages to Chinese, the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 was a watershed. This paper forms an attempt to analyze the relevant socio-cultural contexts before and after the War, and points out that the different socio-cultural formations before and after the War exerted direct influence on fiction translation and led it to take on different characteristics in narrative forms and contents.
