On the Literary Feature of the Preface of Fan Ye's Late Han History

纵观中国文学史,以天下为己任的士大夫往往在其作品中反复申述忠奸之别,辨明忠奸之义由此成为中国士大夫文学一大主题。范晔《后汉书》序论赞虽非文学文本,但其在辨明忠奸这一文学主题上对中国文学史起着上承下传的作用,而其显著的艺术特色也对后世文学家具有较大滋养意义。由此可见,范晔《后汉书》序论赞不惟有重要史学价值,亦具明显文学价值。

In Chinese literature history, the responsible gentry classs usually state the difference between the loyal and the false, which became a major theme of Chinese gentry class literature. Although the preface of Fan Ye＇ s Late Han History was not literary writing, it played a connecting role in Chinese literature history on this theme and the features of the writing had great influence on the following literary writers. So Fan Ye＇ s Late Han History not only had the historical significance, but also the literary significance.
