Objective To observe serum trace element(Zn, Fe, Cu, Mn) levels in HIV - infected adults, which provided a research basis for nutritional therapy to HIV-infected person. Methods 50 blood samples from HIV - infected adults that confirmed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and immunoblotting methods were collected in random. The contents of four kind of microelement (Zn, Fe, Cu, Mn) in serum were determined by inductively coupled plasma and atomic emission spectrum ( ICP - AES). Results Zn and Fe levels in serum of HIV - infected adults were significantly lower than normal level (P 〈 0.01). But Cu and Mn levels were obviously higher than normal level ( P 〈 0.01 ). Conclusion Though some syndromes correlating with AIDS did not occur to HIV-infected person, the balance of serum microelement level was broken down. The results indicated that serum microelement levels were corrected with the pathogenetic of HIV-infected person. The balance destruction of microelement levels maybe a nonage reflection to HIV-infected person's health impairment. Nutritional surveillance and intervention should be done early to HIV-infected person.
