1996年第四季度全球地震活动又上升为高水平,共发生4次7级以上地震,其中11月12日的秘鲁近海地震,震级已超过7.7级。日本九州海岸附近发生3次6～7级地震;塞浦路斯和克什米尔接连发生7级以上地震,亚欧带地震进一步活跃。全球深源地震震级趋向降低。
During the 4th quarter of the year 1996, the global seismicity again raised to a high level, alto- gether four earthquakes of M≥7 occurred, one of them, with a magnitude>7.7, occurred off the coast of Peru in November 11. Three M6～7 earthquakes occurred near the coast of Kyushu, Japan. Some strong earthquakes of magnitude 6 or over successively occurred in Cyprus and Kashimir; the earthquakes in the Eurasian seismic belt became further active. The magnitudes of global deep-fo- cus earthquakes trend to be low.
