On the Problem of Diction in English Translations of China's Civil Law

Civil law, which serves to regulate property and personal relationships, concerns foreign citizens and legal persons living in China. Therefore, the translation of civil law is of crucial importance to the undertaking of opening up. This paper first examines the linguistic features of civil law in English at lexical and syntactic level and then comments on the existing English versions of China＇s Contracts Law and General Principles of the Civil Law.
