When Electroacupuncture (EA)with direct current or electrotherapy is used for treatment of diseases, be cause of electrolytic reaction different electrolytic products such as H2,Cl2, etc will be separated out at positive and negative electrodes. They will spread towards surrounding tissues and into blood, producing different effects, some of them benefit health and the cure, and some are harmful for health but may have specific effects on some diseases. Kinds and quantities o f the electrolytic products depend on the material of electrodes and the decomposition voltage, and others. Thus different metal electrodes and decomposition voltage can produce different therapeutic effects. In order to make electroacupuncture or electrotherapy more effective and safer, the effects and influencing factors of electrolytic products from the electrodes should be payed attentin to and studied.
