Richard Wilhelm and Qingdao Lixian Academy

卫礼贤是20世纪欧洲最著名的汉学家,1899年来到刚刚成为德国租借地的中国青岛,自取中国名卫礼贤。卫礼贤在中国生活了25年,在青岛度过他旅华生活的重要时期。他创办了青岛礼贤书院,成为清末民初胶州湾地区新式学堂的样板。卫礼贤积极研习传播中国文化,为中德文化交流作出了重要贡献。

Richard Wilhelm was the most famous Sinologist in the 20th century in Europe. In 1899, he came to Qingdao which had just become the German leased territory and named himself Wei Lixian. He lived in China for 25 years, most of which was spent in Qingdao. He founded Qingdao Lixian Academy which became a new model of academy in Jiaozh0u Bay Area in the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China. Richard Wilhelm had been keen on studying and spreading Chinese culture and made great contributions to the cultural exchange between China and Germany.
