An Investigation and Comparative Analysis of the Language and Pragmatic Competence of English Majors in Higher Vocational Colleges

报告了对高职英语专业学生英语语用能力与语言能力的调查结果,并对两类调查的结果作了对比分析。调查结果表明:1.被调查学生的语用能力与语言能力的发展不平衡。2.语言能力较强的学生语用能力不一定强。以上调查与分析对英语教学的启示主要有:1.现在的大学英语教材不仅应该注重语言知识的培养,还要注重提高学生的语用能力。2.各类测试中应该加入考查学生语用能力的内容。

The result of a research on the pragmatic competence and language competence of English majors in higher vocational colleges is reported, and a comparative analysis between the results of these two investigations is performed. The results of the investigation reveal that： 1.The development of the pragmatic competence and language competence of the investigated students is unbalanced. 2. Those students who are strong in language competence do not necessarily to be strong in pragmatic competence. The investigation and analysis have some implications in teaching： 1.The textbooks of college English should focus on training students＇ language competence as well as improving their pragmatic competence; 2. Testing students ＇pragmatic competence should be included in examinations of all kinds.
