Translation Practice Must Be Guided by Translation Theory

针对翻译界争论的翻译实践是否需要翻译理论指导的问题,对比了张经浩先生和孙致礼先生的《爱玛》中译本,并由此进一步探讨了两位译者的翻译观,得出了翻译实践离不开翻译理论的结论。并指出,忠实与通顺是文学翻译的基本要求,二者之间存在着辩证统一的关系。

In view of the controversy whether translation theory is required in translation practice, two Chinese versions of Emma are compared and contrasted based on the original, and the two translators＇ translating principles are further studied. By analysis, the conclusion is reached that translation practice cannot be successfully conducted without the guidance of translation theory. And it is presented that faithfulness and smoothness are the basic requirements for literary translation, which are united dialectically.
