湖南是我国现代乡土小说的重镇,在我国乡土小说发展的每一个阶段,都有十分优秀的作家作品,也产生过在世界有影响的大师。彭家煌、沈从文等就是杰出的代表,他们的作品有着深厚的湖湘文化的传统,体现一种敢为人先,忠诚爱国,吃得苦霸得蛮的作风和浓郁的人文关怀之情,作品有的真实生动,有的想象奇特诡谲,但都有着浓郁的民风民俗和地方色彩,使湖南的乡土小说创作呈现一种连绵不断、多姿多彩的局面。

With the strategic importance in the creation of Chinese modernist country novels,Hunan has many outstanding writers and works,including those who are of international fame.Among them Peng Jiahuang and Shen Congwen are the typical representatives with their works reflecting the characteristics of Huxiang Culture and expressing humanistic care and a style of acting with courage and determination,being loyalty to the country as well as standing the hardest of hardship.With the picturesque style or marvelous image,these novels describe colorful customs and have a strong flavor of localities,which make country novels＇ creation present a picture of continuous prosperity.
