在20世纪美国作家中,罗伯特.潘.沃伦以博学多才而著称。其诗歌创作中动物题材占有重要的地位,这些诗歌揭示动物生命具有神秘和纯净、责任感和使命感、本质的纯洁和“恢复”能力等特征。沃伦动物诗歌有其深刻的基督教哲学根源和治疗时代之弊的宗旨,构成了他以爱为主题的终生诗歌创作的重要部分。
Robert Penn Warren ( 1905 - 1989) was, among the 20th century' s American writers, distinguished as the figure of the Renaissance man, and regarded as a great poet fully comparable to Thomas Hardy, William Butler Yeats and Wallace Stevens. Out of the Warren' s poetry career extended for sixty years, the poems on animals rank as an important role. Warren' s poems discover that the animal being demonstrates the essential characteristics of life, such as mystery and purity, sense of responsibility and mission, and innocence of evil and ability to recover. These poems on animals origin profoundly in his believing of St. Augustine Christian philosophy, and bear his aims to cure the disease of his time, which help enrich the human' s knowledge of self, enlighten and recover their virtues, and correct their crimes.
