This paper analyzes the characteristic and advantage of digital video and describes the imminency and importance of content-based video retrieval Based on comparison of several content-based retrieval systems,we summarize their structure, function, shortage and etc and point out the problems and relevant solutions. Furthermore,the hot issues in current research and the orientation of research in the future are analyzed.
