In reading narrative fiction, we should not equate the author with the narrator or equate the narrative voice with the voice of the author. The confusion of the two will result in a misunderstanding of the author's creation and the reader's misinterpretation of the text. Narrator is a role created by the author. The identity of the narrator and his/her involvement in the narrative text determine the narrative voice of the narrator and the basic features of the narrative text.
