Objective To explore the relationship among social support, mental health and personality of impoverished college students. Methods A total of 125 impoverished college students were selected as study group and 120 nonimpoverished as control group. Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90), Social Support Rating Scale and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) were adopted. Results Scores on Somatization, Interpersonal sensitivity, Depression, Anxiety, Paranoid ideation and Psyehotieism of impoverished students were significantly higher than that of nonimpoverished students. Subjective social support and utilization of social support of impoverished group were sigfieantly lower than that of nonlmpoverished group. Social support of impoverished students negatively correlated with factors in SCL-90, psyehotieism(P) score and neurotieism(N) score in EPQ, but positively correlated with extraversion(E). Conclusion Social Support has important effect on the mental health and personality development of college students. In college mental health education, non-intelligence factors shound be cultivated in college students.
