In the second half of the 20th century, enormous strides were made in the development of effective drugs for a wide range of conditions. These drugs have undoubtedly made major contributions to saving I disease. On the whole, however, yes and reducing the burden of this progress has been achieved by focusing on clinical tests on large groups of patients with precisely defined disease entities. The strategy ensured that drugs were safe relative to the expected benefits for the group, even if they were not always effective in every patient.
