The Ford Airstream, like the Chevrolet Volt, is a plug-in hybrid with a difference： it is a large van. Its lithiumion battery pack offers an electric only-range of about 32 km before the on-board generator kicks in. The generator is a Ballard fuel cell that turns compressed hydrogen gas into electricity and extends the range to 480 km. Fuel economy is the equivalent of 5.7 1/100 km.
