Often hailed as the science of the future, nanotechnology is really very much in the present. Reaction and analysis cells that contain volumes of material as small as one nanolitre are increasing the speed and accuracy of target identification. DNA sequencing using nanoarrays is now capable of reading 25 million bases, at 99 per cent accuracy or better, in four hours.
