The versatile structures of carbon nanotubes and fullerenes, or "buckyballs", are, by now, familiar to anyone with more than a passing interest in nanotechnology. They each have specific and valuable properties; fullerenes are highly chemically reactive while nanotubes show high electrical activity and physical strength. What if these properties could be combined to provide new classes of high-value materials?
