On Characteristics and Contributing Factors of the Unusual Painting Styles of the Eight Great Odd Painters of Yang Zhou

"扬州八怪"是清代中期活跃在扬州的一个流派,他们大多出身贫寒,经历坎坷,以卖画为生。他们在艺术上都重视个性化的发挥,力求创新。就是这些画家,善于运用水墨写意的绘画技法,擅长于以简逸的笔墨来传达物象的精神。他们标新立异、清新狂放的画风,被世人称之为"怪,"正是他们的"怪,"才体现了他们的"新"。文章对"扬州八怪"怪异画风的特点及成因作一些深入的探讨。

The eight great odd painters of Yang Zhou belong to an active painting school in Yang Zhou in middle Qing dynasty.Most of these painters came from poor families,with hard and rough life experience,selling their paintings for a living.They unanimously placed great emphasis on the expressions of individuality in painting arts, yearning for ingenuity and initialism,good at freehand brushwork in Chinese ink and wash and delivering spirit of the real world in terms of simple and flying touches of painting techniques.fresh and wild painting styles,and it is right their ＂oddness＂that represents their ＂originality＂.A deeper research therefore is made in this article into the characteristics and contributing factors of their unusual painting sysles.
