The paper explores the condition for the use of futurate. The literature review and the analysis show that the notion of scheduling suits better in accounting for the futurate than the notion of the present relevance. For one thing, due to its own restrictions, it cannot fully explain the use of futurate. For another, the notion of present relevance itself to a certain extent has some overlaps with the notion of scheduling in that it takes into consideration of the ＂fact＂ nature of the future event as well. Therefore, it is believed that the notion of present relevance can be discarded and it is the nature of the future event that determines the use of the futurate.
