This paper analyzes the structure of the character 孚 inscribed on tortoiseshells, which pictographically manifests a father or mother is to hold a child in his or her arms. This act is totally out of a true and wholehearted affection, from which extends the meaning of 孚 to the connotations of honesty and trustworthiness.
