Dimethyl Carbonate （DMC）, which is called a ＂new cornerstone＂ of organic synthesis in 21 st century, is one of the important raw materials in chemical industry, and a green methylating and methoxycarbonylating agent. The various synthesis methods of DMC, as well as the application studies and the prospect are reviewed in this essay.
