Philosophy is a knowledge concerning the epistemology and the methodology. It is also the guiding idea and basic means of urban planning innovation research. In this paper, based on analyzing and summing up ten greatest philosophy ideas and methods which influence the development of urban planning innovation, philosophy is pointed out to be as the foundation of scientific research that could help the related innovation research activities to get away from the limit to ideas, to expand way of thinking, to grasp methods, so as to make progress with breakthrough and applicability in current important period of urban planning reform.
