增词与减词在法律英语翻译中的应用

Amplification and Omission in Legal English Translation

以英汉翻译的两个基本技巧——增词和减词为依据,认为作为翻译学科的一个分支,法律英语翻译同样需要适时增词和减词;由于中西方语言和法律制度的巨大差异,加之法律语言表述具有严谨性和规范性的特征,所以法律英语翻译中的增词与减词现象具有一定的独特性。并结合大量实例,对这一现象进行了初步分析。

Amplification and Omission, the two basic skills in English to Chinese translation, can be applied to legal English translation. Considering the huge discrepancy between Chinese and English and the precise and normative nature of legal expressions, it is of much value to make a study of the amplification and omission issues in legal English translation. A preliminary analysis on this issue is made with many illustrations.
