Farmer Concepts in Rural Social Development: A Survey of Seven Villages in Jiangsu Province

农民思想观念变化是当代中国农民一系列变化中最显著的,它对农村社会发展产生了深刻影响。通过对江苏省苏南、苏中和苏北七个村庄的调查分析,文章揭示了与农民观念分化相关的农村生产、家庭、村民自治的状况和转型期农民观念变化实情。尽管目前农民观念有的不同于传统观念,有的区别于市民观念,也尽管其主流经济观念、生活观念和政治权益观念还没有定型,一切仍在变化中,但调查结果显示,只有那些能顺应时代要求的农民观念才会有它的社会号召和动员意义。

Changes of farmer concepts in the resent China are most obvious, which have great impacts on social development in rural areas. Through a survey of seven villages in Jiangsu Province, this essay reveals the actual conceptual changes related to production, families and self-government in rural areas. Although these changing concepts are different from their traditional ones and also from those of urban dwellers, the survey reveals that only those new concepts compatible with the trend of the times can really make all the difference in social development of rural areas.
