The newly discovered Karamay ophiolitic mélange, distributing along the west edge of the Junggar basin, is of important to understand the tectonic of the western Junggar. However, no certain conclusion about the formation age of this mélange was reached. This paper reports the latest studies on microfossils, which demonstrated that the formation age of this ophiolitic mélange was Early Paleozoic.
