Grammatical metaphor is an important concept in functional grammar first put forth by Halliday. This paper, supported by the tlleory of grammatical metaphor, analyses a part from ＂A Promise of Spring＂, an essay in Close Reading. The analysis shows that the comprehension of a text can be made easier by paraphrasing a metaphorical expression into its congruent form.
