Based on a close reading of F. Scott. Fitzgerald＇ s The Great Gatsby and Don DeLillo＇ s White Noise, which are also representative works of high modernism and postmoclernism respectively, this paper makes a study on the evolution of the literary discourses, subjects, and styles of American urban literature by means of contrast and comparison.
