Brief Comments on the Regency under Duke Yin of Lu

摄政是一种病态的王位继承制度。春秋初年,(鲁)隐公摄政就是(鲁)桓公年幼、鲁国外患重重的特定历史条件下的畸形产物。(鲁)隐公作为一位有为君主,在摄政期间采取了一系列和平外交政策,使鲁国摆脱了外患的威胁。但是由于摄政这一制度为宗法制度所不容,隐公摄政最终以失败告终。

Regency is a morbid system of royal heredity. During the early Spring and Autumn Period, the regency under the duke of the state Lu, Yingong was just a grotesque product of the particular occasion when the state Lu faced numerous formidable foreign aggressions and its right heir Duke Huanhgong was still young and unfledged. Duke Yin ong successfully adopted a series of peaceful foreign policies during his regency. This released Lu from the threat of foreign aggTessions. Due to the patriarchy＇s intolerance however, the regency under Duke Yin＇gong failed ultimately.
