General formulas for calculating the number of structural isomers of lower chain orgnic compounds containing a functional group are reported in this paper. The number of structural isomers of all lower chain (the number of C is less than 9) orgnic compounds containing a functional group can be conveniently obtained by use of those simple formulas.
