The world＇s deepest road tunnel is moving steadily forwards in Norway towards completion at the end of this year. The deepest point of 287m below sea level has been reached by the tunnel, which is now ascending towards the surface on the other side of the Eiksund sound. Quite apart from being a major feat of engineering, the tunnel has been excavated by traditional methods of drilling and blasting, rather than tunnel boring machines.
