Prototype magnetically levitated (maglev) trains for the past two decades have travelled at speeds of up to 400kmph with apparently compelling advantages over their high speed counterparts. The advantages include less vibrations, noise, friction, energy consumption, and noise and air pollution. But have maglevs become the train of the future?
