印度煤炭工业一直维持着稳定的增长，但仍然难以满足8％国内生产总值的年增长率。印度需要大量国外直接投资（FDI）用于矿井的现代化改造（这些矿井用于供应发电站）。为寻求洁净的燃煤技术，印度政府最近为外国投资者打开了方便之门。

The Indian coal industry has been maintaining a steady rate of growth, but is struggling to keep up with booming gross domestic product （GDP） of 8 per cent annually. However,the industry is in need of foreign direct investment （FDI） to modernize mines that supply power plants. In search of clean coal burning technology, the government of India has recently opened its doors wider for foreian investors.
