The Indian coal industry has been maintaining a steady rate of growth, but is struggling to keep up with booming gross domestic product (GDP) of 8 per cent annually. However,the industry is in need of foreign direct investment (FDI) to modernize mines that supply power plants. In search of clean coal burning technology, the government of India has recently opened its doors wider for foreian investors.
