新加坡的历史和复杂的语言背景决定了英语在这个多种族社会享有特殊的地位。新加坡非正式英语作为英语的变体之一,虽然被认为是新加坡人身份的象征,但由于难以与其他主要英语国家的人士沟通,现在正面临着一系列问题。
The history and complicated linguistic background determine the special role of English in this multi-ethnic society. Singapore colloquial English, though regarded as a badge of Singapore identity, is faced with a series of problems due to its poor intelligibility to the international society.
