According to modern linguistics, metaphor somewhat lies in people＇s language and thinking. It is not only a rhetorical technique, but a reflection of culture, as well as a way of thinking. It hes extensively in both English and Chinese. The comparative study of Eng- hsh an.d Chinese metaphors in terms of cultural similarities and differences would benefit the students＇ learning of metaphors and promote the cross- cultural communication.
