The Tension between the Viewpoints of Robbins and Polanyi

罗宾斯从目的和手段的意义上来理解经济,并聚焦与手段稀缺的选择性的分析上,波拉尼则在社会、自然环境与人类之间的交换、代谢关系的角度来考察经济,认为经济"嵌合"于社会关系和制度中。两种观点都有着自己的合理性,但如果把这两种观点都推到极端,其局限性就会凸显。要理解经济的意义,在它们之间确定某种动态的平衡,保持一定的张力是有必要的。

Lionel Robbins understands the economy from the perspectives of purpose and means, and focuses with scarce means selective analysis. However, Karl Polanyi inspects the economy in terms of society, the exchange and the metabolic relations between natural environment and htman beings, suggesting that the economy embedded in social relations and institutions. Two viewpoints have their own reasons, but if put these two viewpoints to the extremes, their limitations will appear. To understand the significance of the economy, it is necessary to keep the balances of dynamics and maintain their certain tension.
