From Translation of Law to Legal Translation:On Properness of Legal Translators

"翻译法律"和"法律翻译"决不是简单的排列顺序上的不同,其体现出一种内涵实质差异,其中的关键涉及到法律翻译主体的"适格性"。译者从"翻译法律"开始,逐渐掌握法律语言的真谛,最终实现"法律翻译"的远大目标,必须历经漫长和艰辛的努力,否则便将难于完成从"非法律人"到"适格法律翻译主体"的质的转换。

The difference of ＂translation of law＂ and ＂legal translation＂ doesn＇ t he in their word orders but in their substantial connotation, especially in the eligibility （properness） of the translators of laws. Beginning from translation of law, a legal translator has to undergo a long and arduous process to gain a marvelous insight into legal language, and ultimately reach the lofty goal of legal translation. Only in this way can he transfer from a layman into a ＂proper legal translator. ＂
