Specific neural basis of Chinese idioms processing:an event-related functional MRI study

摘要 目的研究汉语四字成语处理过程的神经机制。方法设计3种刺激条件,真成语条件(真正的成语)、假成语条件(没有语义的四字组合)和伪成语条件(有语义的四字词语)。16名汉语为母语的大学生(受试者)对3种刺激进行语义判断,同时接收功能 MRI(fMRI)。扫描过程中记录受试者的反应时间和判断错误率。结果真成语、假成语、伪成语的平均错误率分别为2.6%、0.9%和5.2%,三间组差异有统计学意义(F=3.51,P<0.05);真成语,假成语,伪成语的反应时间分别为2399、2223、2205 ms,三组间差异无统计学意义(F=2.15,P>0.05)。右侧海马只在真成语条件下激活;左额下回前部(BA47区)在真成语和伪成语条件下激活,在假成语条件中不激活。其余被激活的脑区在3种条件刺激下大致相同。功能图像数据用 SPM2软件进行预处理和统计参数分析。用广义线性模型估计参数,获得基于单个像素分析的检验激活图(t=3.12,对应 P<0.01,校正 P 值)。结论右侧海马在汉语四字成语的处理中具有重要的作用,左侧 BA47区可能和中文成语语义加工有关。 Objective To address the neural basis of Chinese idioms processing with different kinds of stimuli using an event-related fMRI design. Methods Sixteen native Chinese speakers were asked to perform a semantic decision task during fMRI scanning. Three kinds of stimuli were used: Real idioms ( Real-idiom condition) ; Literally plausible phrases ( Pseudo-idiom condition, the last character of a real idiom was replaced by a character with similar meaning ); Literally implausible strings (Non-idiom condition, the last character of a real idiom was replaced by a character with unrelated meaning). Reaction time and correct rate were recorded at the same time. Results The error rate was 2. 6%, 5.2% and 0. 9% ( F = 3.51,P 〈 0. 05 ) for real idioms, pseudo-idioms and wrong idioms, respectively. The reaction time was 2399ms ,2223ms,2205ms(F = 2.15 ,P 〉 0. 05 )for real idioms, pseudo-idioms and wrong idioms, respectively. Similar neural network was activated in all of the three conditions. However, the right hippocampus was only activated in the real idiom condition, and significant activations were found in anterior portion of left inferior frontal gyrus (BA47) in real- and pseudo-idiom conditions, but not in non-idiom condition. Conclusion The right hippocampus plays a specific role in the particular wording of the Chinese idioms. And the left anterior inferior frontal gyrus (BA47) may be engaged in the semantic processing of Chinese idioms. The results support the notion that there were specific neural bases for Chinese idioms processing.
