In Lacan's "symbolic" order, man signifies transcendence, while woman represents the "other" to men. Woman is marginal to men and this marginal woman is subject to man's control. Marginal here is none other than a person being suppressed, oppressed and excluded. However, Glaspell deconstructs this order of woman's marginalization in her Trifles. She refutes and reconstructs the rela- tionship between men and women, relieving women from "alienation" in male-dominated ideology, and turning them from a negative object to an active subject. In this way, Glasbell subverts women's absolute submission as well as men's authority. From a critical perspective of a post-modern feminist, this paper analyses the changes in the relationship of the same sex and the opposite sex in Trifles in order to reveal Glaspell's exposition of the "myths" of men.
