The author examines the motifs of the dragon and phoenix playing with a pearl from Song-Yuan dynastic stage design used in the corridors of the halls of the Zhva-lu-dgon-pa temple-monastery in southern Tibet. These are examples of the Sino-Tibetan artistic influences resulting from the close political relations between the Tibetan nobility and the Yuan Dynasty Mongol court from the 13th century onwards. In the light of these political relations and the strong artistic influences emanating from Nepal's Newar artistic style, the author examines the murals on the northern wall of the corridors of Zhva-lu-dgon-pa temple-monastery which were painted in its early period.
