Modem American missionaries actively involved themselves with educational activities in China. By launching a mission school system, they introduced to China the advanced Western educatitional system, which greatly challenged Chinese traditional educational system by its advanced school - running mode, fresh - new curriculum and efficient management. The mission schools educated a large number of modem intellectuals for China and became a model for modem Chinese school education. The contribution of American Missionaries to the modernization of Chinese school education deserves a positive evaluation.
