Judged from the aspect of its subject matter,＂The Mother As a Slave＂,a short story written by Roushi, is in essence a work of modernism, theme and style. Roushi, as the subject of the creation, is one of the modernists among the Left - Wing writers. As far as the theme is concerned, the work reveals the human plight, reflecting the philosophy of existentialism. With the theories of narratology, the work is characterized by the mode of modem narrative in terms of stylistics.
