Literal Translation in China English and Its Acceptance

文章以实例分析了中国英语直译的可接受性问题,直译对保留汉语的语言特点、有效再现原作风格及体现汉文化的丰富内涵具有独特的作用,直译应以译语读者的认同、接受和语境的关联性为前提,不考虑语用效果和语用得体性的硬译只会导致交际的失败或读者对译文的误读。

The present paper analyzes the acceptability of literal translation in China English by using concrete examples. Literal translation plays a unique role in retaining the linguistic features of the Chinese language, in effectively reproducing the original style and in embodying the rich connotation of the Chinese culture. Literal translation should take the readers＇ recognition, acceptance and the context relevance as its precondition. The mechanical word-for-word translation without taking the pragmatic effect and pragmatic appropriateness into consideration can only lead to the failure of the cross-cultural communication and the readers＇ misunderstanding of the translated version.
